Although the heart can beat independently, the muscle cells in different areas of the heart have different rhythms, so a control system is needed.
Two systems act to regulate heart activity. Intrinsic Conduction System/Nodal System:
Tachyacardia: a rapid heart rate (100 beats per minute) Bradycardia: heart rate substantially slower than normal (>60 beats per minute) Fibrillation: rapid uncoordinated shuddering of the heart muscle, causes heart attacks.
